Skills Canada BC is a provincial non-profit organization and registered charity comprised of volunteers representing industry, labour, education and government dedicated to promoting and enhancing the perceived value of technical and trade skills among BC’s youth.
McNair student, Dustin Bender brought home a Silver Medal in Culinary Arts. Bender had 3.5 hours to prepare a 3 course meal using a modified black box format. Each competitor had to prepare a lacto-ovo vegetarian appetizer, a rack of lamb main course and a dessert using semi-sweet chocolate. In addition to taste and presentation, competitors were also judged on general cooking skills, timing of courses, the amount of leftover food, safety and sanitation, professionalism, cleanliness and a written menu that accompanied the dishes.
